The Norwegian Red Cross is part of the Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, the world’s largest humanitarian network with millions of volunteers and staff operating in 190 countries. In Asia, Norwegian Red Cross strategic aim is “Improve the health and protection of the most vulnerable people affected by conflict, crises and climate change.”
The geographic focus in Asia is Afghanistan, Pakistan, Myanmar, DPRK, and temporary engagement in disaster affected areas. Thematically, Norwegian Red Cross competencies and capacities aim to improve primary health services and community health, with associated protection of health workers and other vulnerable groups.
The purpose of the position is to achieve the humanitarian objectives in Norwegian Red Cross’ international strategy through strategic leadership of the regional team and resources, and purposeful external relations.
Three strategic responsibilities for the position are
· Secures implementation of the international strategy in the region, by establishing and following up strategic direction through regional and country frameworks
· Ensures efficient leadership and promote optimal use of resources by ensuring purposeful collaboration within the regional team, with other regions, and with the National office.
· Oversees strategic relationship management with Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, donors and external partners.
Education
· University degree
Skills and knowledge
· Successful humanitarian management experience
· Analytical skills and proven ability to solve complex humanitarian challenges.
· Experience from implementing humanitarian projects at field level.
· Thorough understanding of the humanitarian landscape, and the roles and mandates of the RCM.
· Excellent drafting skills. Proven track-record of successful donor applications an asset.
· Fluency in English. Working proficiency of regional languages is an asset

Duty station
Islamabad, Pakistan. Regular travels to priority countries as well as IFRC and ICRC regional offices in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
Contract:
24 months with possibility for extension.
