Organization: The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota with offices in Africa and the Middle East.

The Partners in Trauma Healing (PATH) Project collaborates with torture rehabilitation organizations across the world, focusing on three areas: mental health treatment and healing, program evaluation and organizational development. The funding is from USAID.

Title: MHPSS Trainer/Expert

Timeline: The consultancy will begin May 2017 and be completed by December 2017, with a possibility for extension.

Project Description: Consultant required to provide advanced training and clinical consultation to clinical staff members of a local mental health NGO. Experience in TF-CBT, CPT and EMDR preferred. Capacity to provide 40 hours of consultation per month required. Additional responsibilities include providing guidance to staff from different parts of the organization as they review the clinical assessment tools and systems applied by the mental health team, and support in the piloting process. Advise organization as they develop and test Standard Operating Procedures for crisis management and for data collection and entry.

Deliverables: One adult and one child unified assessment and treatment plan, as well as one torture survivor-specific treatment plan. One crisis management protocol.

Location: Must be already based in Lebanon and able to travel throughout the country to Tripoli and Beirut.

Reporting to: Program Manager and Clinical Advisor for Mental Health

Academic and experiential qualifications:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations:

  • MA in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field.
  • 5 years experience providing psychotherapy to survivors of trauma using individual, group and community-based approaches.
  • Experience training and mentoring clinical staff members.
  • Experience working in the MENA region, and in the Syria response

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations:

  • PhD in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field
  • Clinical experience with torture survivors
  • International work experience with local or international NGOs
  • Training in TF-CBT, CPT and EMDR

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Understanding of and experience developing curriculum in clinical psychology and providing training for mental health professionals who may possess limited or advanced professional training in the field. Knowledge of diverse training methods and designs.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to changing requirements and needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Working knowledge of SPSS preferred.
  • Interest in or commitment to human rights.
  • Arabic and or French language(s) preferred.
