Norwegian Red Cross is a member of the world wide Red Cross Movement working in the fields of relief and assistance and the development of sister Red Cross societies. Norwegian Red Cross has established regional- and country representations, to ensure proximity to key partner Red Cross / Red Crescent societies as well as donors and international partners.
Norwegian Red Cross is expanding its cooperation in Afghanistan to respond to humanitarian needs in hard to access areas, focusing on emergency health, medical logistics and organizational development.
We are now seeking a Country Manager for Afghanistan to be based in Kabul. The Country Manager is the main responsible for Norwegian Red Cross cooperation with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement in Afghanistan. The Country Manager ensures good relations with humanitarian partners, and operational results in line with Norwegian Red Cross international strategy. The position reports to the Asia Regional Representative
Main responsibilities
- Position Norwegian Red Cross as a reliable humanitarian partner in Afghanistan
- Support Afghanistan Red Crescent’s organizational development
- Develop and maintain a good cooperation with donors and partners in Afghanistan
- Contribute to quality programs using available PMER tools and support systems
- Financial planning and management of country portfolio.
- Line manager for staff in country, including security.
Qualifications and Personal Skills we are looking for
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience of which 2 years of leadership experience
- A Master degree in social or political science
- In-depth knowledge of one of Norwegian Red Cross priority areas in Afghanistan: Primary and emergency health programs and/or medical logistics.
- Documented experience in programme management including program design and monitoring finance and risk management.
- Experience in working in complex emergencies/insecure areas are required
- Excellent communication skills required
- Strong emotional resilience required
- Willingness to live in shared accommodation with restricted freedom of movement is required. Travels to field sites as required.
- Professional experience from the RCRC Movement is an asset
- Excellent level of oral and verbal English is required, commend of Dari or Pashtu is an asset
- Personal suitability will be emphazied
