Norwegian Red Cross is a member of the world wide Red Cross Movement working in the fields of relief and assistance and the development of sister Red Cross Societies. Norwegian Red Cross has established regional and country representations, to ensure proximity to key partner Red Cross / Red Crescent Societies as well as donors and international partners.
The Regional CBS coordinator will be responsible for rolling out CBS project activities in Africa region in NorCross supported projects as well as supporting regional training and testing of new tools, ensuring development is driven by field needs. The Regional CBS coordinator will provide support to Burundi RC, Kenya RC, Somalia RC and South Sudan RC for development, implementation, monitoring and quality assurance of CBS program activities. They will work closely with Country managers, regional health adviser, DRM advisor and Cholera project manager for implementation of CBS activities in selected countries in the Africa region and will coordinate and collaborate with the global PHiE coordinator and/or global CBS coordinator based in Oslo HQ.
The position requires the ability to identify and analyse public health threats arising in Africa and our ideal candidate has proven experience in designing, establishing and implementing community based surveillance projects.
Main responsibilities:
Support and advise NorCross partners; ensure quality of assessment, program development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting through frequent field visits to the programs.
Provide technical support to national societies in design and implementing CBS (especially Cholera/epidemic preparedness) project activities.
Work closely with cholera project manager and country managers in Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia and Kenya to provide technical support to Cholera preparedness & response project.
Support in development of specific training curriculum for CBS and conducting country & regional level trainings.
Continuously contribute to the development of global CBS tools through field testing, input and feedback to NorCross on the functionality, effectiveness and user-friendliness of tools and guidelines (including legal and ethical guidelines), and provide recommendations for future developments.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of Red Cross/Red Crescent activities within the relevant contexts and follow new initiatives in the region, linking NorCross programming to these were pertinent.
In close coordination with the Africa team, develop and maintain networks and partnerships with relevant national and international partners and organizations.
Ensure coherence with other relevant policies such as gender, fraud and corruption fraud, etc
Formal Requirements: •A Master’s Degree in Public Health is a minimum requirement,
•Minimum 3 years' field epi/surveillance experience, in the context of international emergency assistance in a developing country; preferably with the RC Movement •Strong analytical and communication skills and ability to multi-task under pressure and yet remain effective and productive. •Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time •Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with partners and lead a team
Skills and Knowledge: •Previous experience of working within Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement is highly advantageous •Basic to intermediate knowledge of other NorCross core thematic areas •Advanced knowledge of humanitarian field work and project management •Minimum of 3 years professional experience in health programmes and surveillance/epidemiology projects preferably within the RC/RC movement
•Proven experience in designing, establishing and implementing community based surveillance projects •Strong computer skills (MS Office incl Excel, data collection tools (Magpi or others), data management and analyse software) and skills in mobile data collection tools
Personal suitability will be emphasized.
Language: Fluent written and oral skills in English, knowledge of French is an asset
