Organization: The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is an international, humanitarian and non-profit organization. The aim of the organization is to help individuals and families who are suffering from distress as a consequence of war and torture. CVT also advocates stopping torture worldwide. The organization is committed to work with victims of torture and war violence by rebuilding their lives and bringing them hope for the future. CVT has been operating in Jordan since late 2008.
Location: Based in Amman with frequent visits in and outside Amman to CVT’s centers
Objective: The Interpreter/Translator primarily responsibility is to provide simultaneous, consecutive and liaison interpretation from Arabic to English and vice versa during mental health counseling, physiotherapy, and social work sessions in (small) groups or individually and (small) team meetings or training workshops. As a Translator the main responsibility is to provide English-to-Arabic and vice versa translation of clinical session’s materials, training materials, manuals and other documents.

Activity rate: 80% interpretation, 20% translation

I. Duties and responsibilities of the Interpreter / Translator: The interpreter/translator shall provide CVT professional Interpretation/ Translation services (From Arabic to English and vice versa) throughout of the period of this agreement as needed and mutually agreed upon by both parties in CVT’s centers in Amman .
The standard working week is two days per week from 09:00 am to 5:00 pm .
II. Qualifications:
A Bachelor degree in translation, English language or related field, with at least two years of proven record and work experience in solid interpreting and translating work.
Familiarity with the humanitarian sector is required. Experience with international organizations is appreciated.
A background in social sciences or psychosocial work experience is preferable.
Native proficiency in Arabic both written and oral.
Near native proficiency in English both written and oral is required.
Professional-level ability to translate English into Arabic, secondary ability to translate Arabic into English.
Previous translation experience within a non-governmental working environment (human rights, mental health and advocacy language experience highly desirable).
Good familiarity with website navigation tools and terminology in Arabic and English.
Computer literate in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Familiar and comfortable with using technology where appropriate, such as microphones, headphones, telephones, video and the internet.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to deliver timely and accurately.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent listening skills and communication skills
Not afraid to work in somewhat challenging areas.
Flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions, beneficiaries needs, and program needs.
Able to maintain strict confidentiality. **

Self-Care:
Attend regular support, debriefing, case conferences, and/or supervision meetings to ensure information and skill-sharing.
Set and follow through on a personal self-care schedule to avoid burnout and vicarious traumatization.
Recognize and seek support when needed from internal and/or external resources to address concerns of secondary trauma in an expedient manner.
