The Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement is composed of 190 national societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation is the largest network of humanitarian actors, with 100 million members and volunteers. The Red Cross in Norway has 130000 members and close to 30000 volunteers carrying out activities through the more than 400 offices locally based.
The Norwegian Red Cross is looking for a first aid delegate based in Baghdad, Iraq.
Norwegian Red Cross, together with its partner the Iraq Red Crescent Society (IRCS) in Iraq, supports projects and programmes on health, water and sanitation, relief and finance development. The overall goal is improving community resilience and reaching the most vulnerable people, while achieving greater and more measurable impact.
The First Aid Delegate is responsible for the implementation and quality assurance of NorCross supported projects in Central and South Iraq and to follow-up up on the results’ achievement and reporting. This includes specifically the ECHO funded activities in his/her area of operation as well as the technical support for all FA activities of NorCross in Iraq.
Main responsibilities
Ensure the continuation and quality implementation of the capacity development of IRCS in Basic First Aid (BFA) in line with the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines and the Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC) curriculum;
Ensure the continuation and monitor the quality of BFA activities implementation;
Ensure the proper implementation and regular follow up on the emergency ambulance service activity in close cooperation with IRCS Health department
Follow up on the implementation of WaSH activities through Watsan department at IRCS
Follow-up on the implementation of relief activities with relevant departments
Prepare timely activity reports along with the relevant IRCS departments
Assist in the preparation of timely financial reports and reconciliations along with IRCS finance department
Attend different meetings with partners as coordinated with the country manager
Qualifications and Requirements
Relevant higher education in health-related field;
Previous experience in first aid and/or paramedics highly preferable. 3-5 years experience in first aid and paramedics without health background can be accepted
Minimum 2 years experience in project management including implementing and coordinating health activities in emergency settings in camps, urban and rural settings.
Experience in developing and delivering trainings to develop staff and volunteer capacity.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
Good financial management and IT skills
Previous RCRC experience is a strong asset
Arabic language is mandatory
